This cookbook was compiled by the elders and members of Appalachian American Indians of West Virginia. AAIWV is the largest Native American Group in West Virginia; with over 5000 members, most of whom still live in West Virginia. AAIWV was formally recognized as an Inter-tribal tribe by both the West Virginia Legislature and by a Governor’s Proclamation. Our goal is to retain the history and culture of the Native American Peoples, who continue to live in our beloved state. So far, I have only tried Dark Rain Style Shawnee Hominy. That was both delicious and incredibly easy to make. It was a big hit at the potluck I brought it to. I'm not American Indian, so most of the recipes in the book are new to me. If the rest are anywhere near as good as the hominy one, this cookbook is more than worth the cover price. I probably should mention that some of the recipes are not precise in the measurements or directions. If you are used to exact measurements and directions, you might find this a little perplexing.
Love.used it everyday till my daughter "borrowed"it.She and the grandgirls are reading it.

I also have one of the earlier editions of this cookbook. While I love the recipes, I also enjoy the "extras" that are included. I am a proud West Virginian, and a proud member of AAIWV, so I truly cherish these authentic recipes. However, you don't need to be from WV to enjoy this cookbook. You just need to love good food. It is wonderful to see this excellent cookbook offered through Amazon. I am looking forward to the Kindle edition, which I am told will be coming soon. :-)
