This book is great. It's got great info and great high quality pictures of the posters and propaganda.
World War II Posters from David Pollack is a nice coffee table book from the perspective of collecting rather than analysis or critique. If you want a book primarily focused on posters with minimal contextualization, which is what many coffee table books aim for, this will satisfy your need.There are, as one typical pseudo-intellectual naysayer mentioned, many books on war posters. They all serve a particular niche and this one is no different. If you want the posters placed in a more narrative structure this may not be the book for you. If you simply want a collection of images to peruse this will serve you well. I have studied these and many other images and it is nice to have a number of them collected in one place. There is information about artists included so that you can explore whatever aspect might interest you.While there are many of the images and assumptions that were over-the-top, a part of propaganda in general, there is no discussion of them. That said, this would make a good jumping off point to explore some of the racism, fear-mongering, and many other prevalent elements of the posters. There are plenty of both popular history and academic books available that offer such analysis, usually with fewer and lower quality images, so this book would also work well as a companion to those books.Reviewed from a copy made available by the publisher via Edelweiss.
