About the Author

Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925) was born in the small village of Kraljevec, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now in Croatia), where he grew up (see right). As a young man, he lived in Weimar and Berlin, where he became a well-published scientific, literary, and philosophical scholar, known especially for his work with Goethe’s scientific writings. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he began to develop his early philosophical principles into an approach to systematic research into psychological and spiritual phenomena. Formally beginning his spiritual teaching career under the auspices of the Theosophical Society, Steiner came to use the term Anthroposophy (and spiritual science) for his philosophy, spiritual research, and findings. The influence of Steiner’s multifaceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, various therapies, philosophy, religious renewal, Waldorf education, education for special needs, threefold economics, biodynamic agriculture, Goethean science, architecture, and the arts of drama, speech, and eurythmy. In 1924, Rudolf Steiner founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which today has branches throughout the world. He died in Dornach, Switzerland.

This book will help people to understand why it is important to cultivate the developing soul of the child and surround the child with love, beauty, good role models of good values, art, music, painting, fairy tales, and all kind of gentle experiences. It explains the different ages, and what is happening in the soul of the child at each state all in connection with his/ her karma and his/ her family blood karma. I think we confuse children by saying one thing and doing another. Well, in this book rudolf steiner explains how important is for a child the actions that we imitate because from his first 7 years, a child learns just by imitation, not by us teaching or lecturing. If we help our children to cultivate their soul with goodness, we help them to become great human beings. It is a book to read with an intuitive perspective, not the kind of intellectual and technological approach

As I become increasingly tasked with helping children, it is Steiner's insights into the body, mind and spirit of children that make the most sense and can be readlly applied to any child. All Rudolf Steiner lectures and books have humbled me. [...]

Very interesting. Don't agree with everything that Steiner says - but well worth the read.

Excellent - informative and enlightening -

Many of the books I get for my tablet or Kindle are replacements for those we have given away. All of our Steiner books and other authors on anthroposophy have new homes and needed a renewal in our library. Mu husband used many of Steiner books in his teaching. Steiner's work centers on using a spiritual essence in all phases of life and is wonderfully inspiring.

Great so far, gives a more clear understanding of Anthroposophical philosophy than other Steiner work.

I bought this and the other Steiner book for my daughter and grandson. We are familiar with Steiner's work, and agree with it.

A classic gem of an essay. Over ten years before the first Waldorf school, Rudolf Steiner lays out a program for the reform of education. Contains much common sense, such as,"Vague and the general phrases - 'the harmonious development of all the powers and talents in the child,' and so forth - cannot provide a basis for a genuine art of education. Such an art of education can only be built on a real knowledge of the human being. Not that these phrases are incorrect, but that at the bottom they are useless as it would be to say of a machine that all its parts must be brought harmoniously into action. To work a machine you must approach it, not with phrases and truisms, but with real and detailed knowledge. So for the art of education it is the knowledge of the members of man's being and of their several development which is important. There is of course no doubt that they truly realistic art of education, such as is here indicated, will only slowly make its way. This lies, indeed, in the whole mentality of our age, which will long continue to regard the facts of the spiritual world as the vapourings of an imagination run wild, while it takes vague and altogether unreal phrases for the result of a realistic way of thinking."
