I BROUGHT THIS AS A GIFT FOR MY GRANDSON WHO IS A STUDENT IN A FAR AWAY COLLEGE AND IS FASCINATED BY IRISH MYTHOLOGY, WHICH HE FIRST ENCOUNTERED ON A TRIP TO IRELAND WHEN HE WAS ELEVEN. THE ONE WORD DESCRIPTORS CAN HARDLY APPLY TO A BOOK ON MYTHOLOGY, BUT I TRIED ANY WAY.HE GOT THE BOOK (IT WAS PREOWNED) IN GOOD CONDITION AND IS ENJOYING IT.I RECOMMEND THE BOOK TO ANYONE WHO HAS THIS INTEREST.

I love reading stories of various cultures' folktales, myths, and legends, and came across this title recently. What a magical reading experience! This is indeed a treasury of Irish myth, legend, and folklore, compiled in two parts,i.e. fairy and folk tales of the Irish peasantry, and Cuchulain of Muirthemne: The Story of the Men of the Red Branch of Ulster, by Lady Gregory.William Butler Yeats edited the first part, which consists of the most renowned tales of the magical creatures of Ireland. These tales were painstakingly compiled from other expert writers and based upon Yeats' own research, and the collection is further enhanced by Yeats' own prose. The content of the first part (edited by Yeats) is categorized under:The Trooping Fairies-The Fairies-Frank Martin and the Fairies-The Priest's Supper-The Fairy Well of Lagnanay-Teig O'Kane and the Corpse-Paddy Corcoran's Wife-Cusheen Loo-The White Trout; A Legend of Cong-The Fairy Thorn-The Legend of Knockgrafton-A Donegal FairyChangelings-The Brewery of Egg-shells-The Fairy Nurse-Jamie Freel and the Young Lady-The Stolen ChildThe Merrow-The Soul Cages-Flory Cantillon's FuneralThe Solitary Fairies-The Lepracaun; or, Fairy Shoemaker-Master and Man-Far Darrig in Donegal-The Piper and the Puca-Daniel O'Rourke-The Kildare Pooka-How Thomas Connolly met the Banshee-A Lamentation for the Death of Sir Maurice Fitzgerald-The Banshee of the MacCarthysGhosts-A Dream-Grace Connor-A Legend of Tyrone-The Black Lamb-The Radiant Boy-The Fate of Frank M'KennaWitches, Fairy Doctors-Bewitched Butter (Donegal)-A Queen's County Witch-The Witch Hare-Bewitched Butter ( Queen's County)-The Horned Women-The Witches' Excursion-The Confessions of Tom Bourke-The Pudding BewitchedTyeer-Na-N-Oge-The Legend of O'Donoghue-Rent-Day-Loughleagh (Lake of Healing)-Hy-Brasail, - The Isle of the Blest-The Phantom IsleSaints, Priests-The Priest's Soul-The Priest of Coloony-The Story of the Little Bird-Conversion of King Laoghaire's Daughters-King O-Toole and his GooseThe Devil-The Demon Cat-The Long Spoon-The Countess Kathleen O'Shea-The Three WishesGiants-The Giant's Stairs-A Legend of KnockmanyKings, Queens, Princesses, Earls, Robbers-The Twelve Wild Geese-The Lazy Beauty and Her Aunts-The Haughty Princess-The Enchantment of Gearoidh Iarla-Munachar and Manachar-Donald and His Neighbors-The Jackdaw-The Story of Conn-edaThis is followed by Yeats' notes on the various categoriesThe second part is Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory's "Cuchulain of Muirthemne", and the content consists of:Birth of CuchulainBoy Deeds of CuchulainThe Courting of EmerBricriu's Feast,And The War of Words of The Women of UlsterThe Championship of UlsterThe High King of IrelandFate of the Sons of UsnachThe Dream of Angus OgCruachanThe Wedding of Maine MorgorThe War for the Bull of CuailgneThe Awakening of UlsterThe Two BullsThe Only Jealousy of EmerAdvice to a PrinceThe Sons of Doel DermaitBattle of RosnareeThe Only Son of AoifeThe Great Gathering of MuirthemneDeath of CuchulainThis is followed by Yeats' notes on "The Conversation of Cuchulain and Emer", and notes on the text in general. This is an excellent, moderately priced resource on Irish myth, legend, and folklore, sure to delight any fan of folktales!

Bought this book as a gift, and the recipient is spending a long, cold winter indoors, reading this book and staying cozy and warm. It was in excellent condition when I got it and I was pleased to include it in a Christmas package. Very good transaction with a reliable seller.

Book condition is exactly as described-I’m very happy with it. Wonderful stories so far-very engaging! Seller also included a much appreciated metal Celtic themed bookmark-thank you!

The book is amazing, the book I got was old and had yellowed pages, very thick and hefty. I love it. The combination of stories and prose is likable. The voices of Yeats and Lady Gregory are amazing to read and it is a truly incredible treasure trove of knowledge to possess.

This book is wonderful. In fact it's so wonderful my son borrowed it the day I got it and I haven't seen it since. I can't wait until he moves and I can go to his room and get it back. (Also, I was surprised it was a hard cover...I was expecting paperback.)

The classic for story tellers. Worth the purchase.

great bedtime reading and the second half of the book is the story of Cuchalainn, one of the great Irish stories. very entertaining
