Insightful, practical and timely.This book explores both diversity and inclusion in a detailed way that invites you as the reader into the conversation. I take away one of the statements that the author makes that I couldn't shake off and it's There is a profound difference between diversity and inclusion, and trying to reach for one without the other shows only superficial commitment to change. I'm glad not just as a woman, but also as someone who is constantly working with young people from diverse backgrounds, that I got to read this book. Even though it was off NetGalley, I did get quite an awakening, especially on my biases.

This book is by far my favorite read of the year. It is heady, approachable and deeply important especially in today's corporate climate. I was so very affected by the first four chapters, took time to delve into the annotated reference material and even took the quizzes as linked. Barbara provides such a clear and easy to follow road map for self improvement in the areas of diversity and inclusion as long as the reader is open and honest with the results. I became stuck in chapter five when the focus shifts back to the organizational level implementation. I am only a part-time, remote employee of a small architectural firm, and while I see so much value in every aspect of the book, I was almost depressed that I wasn't able to share it with colleagues who could share my enthusiasm. In my role as a workplace strategist, however, I found many elements that I hope to weave into the dialogue I have with my clients and their staff and help to create design strategies to help implement diversity and inclusion where possible. I think that this work is incredibly important. I practically highlighted the entire book and am excited to move into a new position at some point in the future which will allow me to implement much more of the knowledge imparted throughout this book. Thank you, Barbara for taking the time to help move the needle.

I bought several “D&I” books over the holiday and "Women, Minorities, & Other Extraordinary People" is by far the most informative, original and compelling. Adams' book is exactly what I was looking for. Relevant examples, challenging content that made me think and specific ideas and tools for building a plan. I especially appreciated the chapter, "Reframing Your Thinking." The framework for "thinking about differences" and the focus on evaluative thinking and mindfulness brought new perspective for me especially in becoming aware of own biases. I also appreciated the Conscience Inclusion behaviors from the work of Judith Katz and Fred Miller. These are gems! Meaningful and easy to practice.

Fantastic book! A great read not just for those in a business climate. Very insightful with a multitude of links to utilize. I couldn’t put it down. I recommended it to my book Club!

Really interesting and innovative. Lots of great ideas. A must read in this economic climate.

About the Author

Sarah Conover holds a BA in Religious Studies from the University of Colorado and an MFA in Creative Writing from Eastern Washington University. I purchased this book for my 5 year old niece. While the language is too advanced for her to read on her own, she loves having this book read to her. As she has grown familiar with the stories over the last year, she has also gotten better at trying to read them on her own. One of the nice things about this book is it includes stories and sayings from across many different countries and cultures, reflecting the diversity of people following the Islamic faith, which is also reflected in the artwork. It also provides a human face for Muslims around the world, given the stereotypes and prejudice abounding in the media. A great book for the children in your life.

Even adults will appreciate reading some of the stories in here. I certainly did, and if you approach this book with an open mind I honestly believe you and your children will appreciate this book as well regardless of your religious or cultural beliefs.

Nice short stories from around the world with moral values. For some stories, adult help is needed to tell your child what the moral of the story was. Overall good.

This is a great book. I bought it for my daughter who is 6 years old. She likes reading books and I thought she might like it despite the fact that the description states that age range is 9 and up. I am sure she will like this book when she grows up a bit. Just a small suggestion for the author: it would be great if you can work on its simplified version, that would be interesting for kids in the age range of 5-9.In any case, this book is really great! I read this whole book in one day I just could not put it down. Its a wonderful book for children who understand concept. The book uses teachings of mohammad (PBUH) and verses of the Quran and incorporates them into everyday life obstacles, it gives a profound understanding on how muslims are taught to handle situations according to the teachings of the Quran. If you have a child under 5 years old it may be hard for them to understand and put the two together but nevertheless I recommend it.

If you love chocolate or cacao, or if you feel guilty about so much chocolate indulgence, this is THE CRAVING BOOK for you ! This might just satisfy every craving you could ever have, with NO GUILT, for it's soooo good for you.

Oh my god! Let me just say that my husband (a strict meat & potatoes guy) wanted NOTHING to do with raw food....and then this book came and I can't get it back from him. Double chocolate cherry cheesecake is the current favorite, but we plan on working our way through the entire book. Such a great way to introduce raw to people at parties, they don't even know it's raw and ask for the recipe right away.

The pros: tasty recipesEasy-to-follow directions.The cons :NO index, so specific recipes are difficult to find.The same first 10 pages or so are contained in each of her books, so you pay for that over and over again if you buy more than one.Not sure if the cost-vs-benefit ratio is good. IMO, ALL her books could have been condensed into one--WITH an index!--for half the price or less than all of her books purchased separately.

Simple easy recipes. There are no pictures in the book (you're directed to check out her website to see pictures, which is rather inconvenient if you're trying to prep the chocolates in the kitchen).Nothing extraordinary or special about the recipes. But easy to follow instructions.

I was not terribly impressed with this book, but I bought it for two reasons (1- see what Kristin Suzanne's books were like, and 2-see if she had good easy chocolate recipes)I now have an idea of what her books are like: The editing and layout are haphazard, but then many self-published works are. I was disappointed with the recipes, but happy to learn about chocolate-making ingredients.This is not the worst book I have ever seen, and it does have a pretty glossy 4-color cover.

I was so excited to be able to get this book. I love her blog.So let me tell you about this book. I loved it. I can't wait to get my order of raw cacao powder and nibs so I can try some of these recipes. I am thinking I will be trying some with raw carob powder- just to get me by until my order gets here.The book has 5 chapters. The first chapter is titled Raw Basics. It covers as it says the basics but also a list of equipment needed (or enjoyed as a raw foodie), ingredient descriptions, basic recipes for nut/seed milks and raw condiments. My favorite part of this chapter is her tips. I learned a lot. My favorite tip is for doubling recipes. I double, sometimes quadruple a recipe for my large family so this was good info.The second chapter covers Raw Chocolate. You get a brief history of chocolate and learn why it is good for you. She also covers the different raw chocolate products available and other special ingredients. Chapter three covers chocolate drinks. I can't wait to try the Creamy chocolate vanilla milk , and the Chocolate holiday spice nog.In chapter four she covers snacks, soup, salad dressing, crackers and breakfasts. A lot of great recipes to choose from. Several popped off the page at me: Chocolate powered oatmeal, Power packed trail mix, Chocolate chia crackers, Mesquite spiced chocolate brazil nut crumble and Chia chocolate pudding snack to name a few..In the final chapter she covers desserts. Yum! How about Goddess cream cake , Chocolate pumpkin pie, Pure rush chocolate and Fun chocolate banana plant leather. It is hard to choose just one recipe that I can't wait to try.I learned a lot about raw chocolate. Like how it is loaded with antioxidants. I also learned that pure chocolate has heart health benefits. "The flavonoids (organic compounds) found in cacao can help prevent clogged arteries and lower blood pressure."If you love chocolate like we do and are looking for healthy vegan recipes this book will deliver! Yes it is a raw book but I believe that even if you are not a raw foodie you can benefit from getting more raw food into your diet. Besides doesn't it make you feel less guilty eating chocolate when you know it is good for you? You will not be disappointed with this book.

Absolutely any form of chocolate that you love has a healthy, yummy version in this wonderful recipe book packed with lots of recipes and ideas! Starting with Chocolate Drinks and Shakes, Chocolate for breakfast, snacks, treats, cookies, cakes, sauces, ice creams, cheezecakes and even make your own variety of chocolate bars! Whew! - where to begin! I also like that Suzanne gives a clear overview of the versatile RAW chocolate forms (used in the recipes) and other ingredients that enhance raw chocolate treats. As always, Kristen's recipes are QUICK and delicious! Be sure to check out her website for irresistible photos and her informative blog. I've really enjoy all the books I've gotten from Kristen, and this one is no exception! I love the fact that I can enjoy raw desserts and chocolate and not feel guilty! Instead I feel happy about the nutritious and delicious treats. As usual, Kristen comes up with great and unusual flavor combinations - i.e. pumpkin and chocolate. Chocolate Pumpkin Pie was the first recipe I tried and it was fabulous! The Chia Chocolate Pudding Snack is one of my new favorites, too. I really like that this book isn't all desserts, but there's smoothies, milks, snacks, crackers, breakfast goodies, and more. Who knew chocolate was so versatile?! I love the recipes in this book and definitely recommend it for anyone who loves chocolate!

I am 73, was born in Amarillo, Texas, graduated high school in Pampa, Texas, spent my honeymoon on horseback in the Wichita Mountain Canyon just inside the Oklahoma line, and have roamed Palo Duro canyon many times. And that's what drew me to this history-based novel. I loved the story, am very familiar with the weather (We called them "blue northers", by the way) and could see the locations in my mind's eye. But, I agree with those who wrote that the story was too wordy.The author did, in fact, repeat himself excessively in almost the identical words. I am not adverse to someone stating his particular religious dogma within the storyline; however, turning that dogma into a long, multi-paged sermon is also excessive and actually takes away from the story. Like some of the other reviewers, I became really tired of reading through Roman Catholic sermons and simply skipped all of it until the storyline reappeared. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying to skip the dogma...sculpt it down to simply show what makes up the fiber of the man and move on with the story.As Part One came out apparently in 2007, I am surprised to find that Part Two of this trilogy has not yet appeared on the market. I hope that the delay is not because of the same verbosity on the part of the author for I'd like to continue reading the basic story.

I have read this book three times so I can honestly give it five stars.The storyline is interspersed with "sermonettes" - philosophical, political, and religious sidelines that add thought, historical value, and depth to the novel. A western version of the 19th century Scottish George MacDonald novels.I love a great western and this is truly a great one so I skimmed a lot of the sermonettes during my first read, stumbling along in order to hurry through the story. The characters were real and likeable, the plot was unhurried but kept me reading, and the historical details were accurate and enlightening.Had it been only those things I would have rated the book 4 stars. But for me a 5 star book calls me back over and over. It's like returning to visit an old friend. That is how I felt about this book. And the sermonettes that I skimmed the first time, were read and re-read and pondered during the next 2 times that I read this book. I have even come back to them for school and character lessons. What was a stumbling block as I tried to hurry through, became fuel for thought and research as I savored the book at a slower pace.I am currently starting my 4th reading in anticipation of volume 2 that is due out in January, 2015. And I braved the unknown world of amazon reviews in the hopes that others will take the time to read a truly great book.

This Western covers a family that strives to establish good moral character in their children and the details of their triumph and tragedy. It goes cross faith and cross culture. Catholic and Protestant together working for a common goal. The 70 times 7; (relating to how many times one should forgive his brother taught by Jesus to Peter in the Gospels) name of their "brand," that's how they come up with the brand 70X7. At times while reading Escondido Bound I grew restless at the level of detail provided, wanting to jump ahead to find out what was coming next. However I resisted temptation and continued to give each page its due. At its conclusion I felt a sense of loss for not being able to continue, as well as a true appreciation for what I'd read. Like his characters, the author tells the story in an honest, measured and engaging manner. I am looking forward to introducing this book to family and friends ... almost as much as I am looking forward to reading the second installment.

It was easy to get caught up in the characters lives & become absorbed in this book. I enjoyed reading a western story with a new perspective from this author. Most westerns are pretty generic. There was a lot of philosophy & opinion that the author added. It was based on scripture & his interpretation of it. It was a bit long in parts but for the most part good to hear another person's opinion on familiar Biblical teachings. I was a bit deflated when the whole thing ended & I'm left "Hanging" for the next part of the story but, as an author he was doing a good job of selling his story! Now waiting for the next book!

The research is impeccable and provides insight as to what was necessary to acquire ownership. What had to be overcome. The dramatic change taking place in the 1870s. Finally, the almost unbearable weight of responsibility toward family and the partnership.A theme runs through the telling. "Man must live and be guided by a higher authority to build that which will last." The spiritual values of the 7OX7 party were lived out in their daily lives. However, the villian lives by a different code and threatens all they have achieved and what they stand for. Who and what will win out. We are left praying for the Stuart-Schurtz party but completely uncertain as to their future.Bring on Part Two![...]

Excellent "western" albeit without all the usual absurdities. This book kept me captivated for several days on a Virgin Island vacation. A few complain about the internal monologues, but I found this the best part and often re-read them several times. I look forward to Part 2.

If you are like me and had to use a Scanning Electron Microscope or SEM, you want to start with the basics that everyone goes by. This book is a safe bet that most everyone knows about. Plus, it is written with very little background in the world of electron microscopy. Too many authors to list but it's wonderful that alot of experts got together to present this material in clear, concise manner. Before you grab your solid-state physics book or check Wikipedia, just relax and page through it since this book pretty much makes it easy for you.Chapters are arranged by the following: What is SEM?, How SEM works?, and Why are we interested with SEM? That's the easiest way to explain rather than list all the chapters. If you have a specific question, you don't even have to read through the previous chapters (if you have rough understanding). The size of this book is a BIG PLUS. It's compact compared to the monsterous Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) book by Barry Carter which is another great reference. For this price, you would be lucky to find another good reference book under $100 with such relevant information.

I had to purchase this text for my EM class in undergrad and it was a wealth of information! This text was clear and concise with the content and topics were easily found and referenced. I could you use text for both exploratory information and also trouble-shooting imaging issues and queries.

I'm reading this book and an older edition of the Reimer text for in independent study course in SEM. While I'm only three chapters into both texts, the Goldstein text seems more readable. I like the writing style, and it doesn't seem to sacrifice in any technical aspect.It is also very well illustrated. For a book about an imaging technology, this is obviously quite important. There are many instances where there are sets of images to compare the results achieved with varied operating parameters.The text is well organized. It begins with an assumption that you know some basic physics and chemistry, but doesn't require any background in microscopy. Both the Table of Contents and Index are detailed enough to enable specific searches for specific subject matter.This is a textbook I look forward to reading in the evening, and one that I look forward to finishing. It matches very well with the practical work I'm doing on the SEM.

This is the bible of SEM.I just started working in a SEM lab and wanted to know more of the technical science behind it. My co-worker, who has been doing SEM for ~5 years recommend the book to me.This book has greatly exceeded my expectations and has impressed me with the technical content.Worth the $$$.

I couldn't stop reading. "One more chapter" turned into the whole book. I'm loving every second of the ride (minus the comic reading format this one changed to, as opposed to the way all the other comics I've read on kindle were set up - a way I much preferred and was easier to read than this). Great book. I want so much to stay up and read more, but I'd be up all night. It's really that good.

This series of comics was started several years ago but isn't finished yet? I want to purchase the entire set of the Marvel rendition of "The Stand". My difficulty is trying to figure out what are the order of these books. I havefigured Volumes I and 3 because the volume number is included in their titles but what of the others?Is the following list correct?Vol 1 "Capt. Gotta love the illustrations to Stephen King's Classic Novel. I've read this before and it is nice to see another visual aspect to the story other than the one that I saw as I read it!

A great story and I've been told one of the best adaptations of the novel thus far.

I would recommend this series/graphic novel to anyone who loves Stephen King's books especially if they love The Stand. The artwork is amazing and the story is awesome.

Wonderful collection of the comics into one bound edition. Full color, great story and really compliments the tale he is telling. Artistic work is beautiful and really brings a new dimension to the tale.

Marvel did an amazing job with this Stephen King classic. It is simply amazing as a graphic novel. I can't wait to get them all!!!! It shipped fast as well and was cheap.
