I really enjoyed this book. Each chapter is a specific, important historic event or period and that makes it easy to pick up and put down without it dragging on and on. You don’t need to be a historian to enjoy the book, but it does help to be a history fan. The book goes into detail for each period or event, but not to an excruciating level. The book is a quality primer to spark interest in a broad range of historic events but can also entertain as a stand-alone volume.
This book is a fascinating, comprehensive look at the history of our world and includes maps for easy reference. Anyone who wants to learn more about the events that shaped our world will find this book invaluable!
A pretty good read for the price. Attempts at humour through the articles tend to be more annoying than funny. Not a lot of early civilisation stuff but a reasonable mix for people to get a taste and then to explore further
Overall a good summary of historical events. Relatively factual writing with little personal view/opinion. At times a little too much detail especially around war strategy.

A captivating and broad-ranging history of the world. Any history book can never be all things to all people, this one being heavy on Western history. It is a well-written, thoroughly researched compendium of the important historical phenomena that have shaped the world as it is today, as the author views it. Recommended for anyone who has an interest in learning about the current state of the world through knowing its history.
