My daughter's english teacher recommended she get this graphic novel to help her understand Romeo and Juliet better. I read it as well. It definitely helped my daughter find the material much more relevant. I actually think I learned more about Romeo & Juliet because I wasn't burdened by trying to translate through the language that Shakespeare often uses. It still had all of the key story points and conversations throughout all of the acts.

This graphic novelization of Shakespeare's most famous -- but maybe not his best -- play absolutely stunned me. I've already read the play twice and seen I-don't-know-how-many recreations on stage, in film, and on television, and so I confess my expectations for this newer interpretation were quite low. What fresh air could a graphic novel possibly breathe into a story so common it's become a cliche? You'll be surprised. Or at least I was.For one thing, the artwork is fabulous: beautiful, inventive, playful, modern. For another, the novel uses modified English that communicates Shakespeare's themes clearly but doesn't water them down. This version of the play will be an exciting tool in my classroom -- already I wish I had bought thirty copies instead of just one -- but more than that, it is a piece of art in itself. When I hit the last page, when the Capulets and the Montagues finally reconciled their age-old rivalry, I felt my eyeballs burn with tears, as though I were reading Romeo & Juliet for the first time. It's that good. Highly recommended, even if you're not an English teacher who, like me, is just looking for stuff to help him teach the play for the first time.

These books are great. I keep them on hand to help students who might struggle with the reading of R&J.

Written in "modern English".My 10 years old told me he wanted to know the story of Romeo and Juliet. Still a bit long for him to read, but he really enjoys it. The graphics are pretty good, and the format of presenting such a classic is fantastic. He is still interested to give it a try (later) in "older English).

Iâ€™m a beginning quilter. I have 50 years of fashion sewing experience. (Did I just admit that??) Quilting is different and figuring out how much fabric is needed can be difficult. This book has excellent charts that I will use very frequently.

This tiny 36 page pocket sized pamphlet can be carried around in your purse, has every size and outcome related to quilting fabric in pages of color coded lists. Price is OK. For a bit more money you can add the All in one Quilters Reference Tool by Hargrave, Craig, Anderson & Aneloski which is also very user friendly.

I wanted simple mathematics on this but itâ€™s not so. This is for someone whoâ€™s been doing this for years, not someone new to quilting. When youâ€™re new to quilting, you just want to know how many blocks to make a certain quilt whether youâ€™re doing 5x5â€™s for a twin comforter or 10x10 blocks for a King. But no, not this one. This one is very confusing and Iâ€™ll tell you, I learned a lot more on YouTube than this

I carry this with me- always.... very handy- it's nice not having to figure out the math....

This book remains relevant thanks to the continued ubiquity of the x86 platform. This textbook provides a good introduction to the platform, along with excellent descriptions of interfacing hardware that seem to be de-emphasized in today's textbooks. The book tells an interesting story, almost walking through the reader through the research process for, say, different memory types, complete with vendor reference sheets. Some of the hardware is no longer available but the information remains relevant and applicable. Excellent book! I'm buying the third edition also for my library.

Most people will call this a beginners book on microprocessors, but this book gives you all the tools you need to be able to design and use a microprocessor based computer. I used this book in a beginning micrcomp design class, now it is one of the most important reference books in my library. He yearns for children of his own, but his biology has left him unable for that to happen. On his route, he meets Art, an older alpha who lost his omega five years ago and hasn't fully moved on. The two experience a crazy hot hook up and then both realize that they want more, totally terrified that it's going to fall apart and leave them both even more miserable than they were before.I love the world building in this story, how omegas and alphas work, how Art's previous partner was a trans omega - I just love the thought taken into describing the "rules" to this world.There is plenty of emotion, Simon learning to trust Art, Art learning that he needs to be up front with things, and both of them realizing that they are totally perfect for each other. On their journey together, there is some crazy hot moments between the two of them, a bit of kink, some lovely daddy kink, and it's all just written very sexy and sensual. I loved it!Can't wait for the next book - hey, maybe that sexy alpha professor needs a story!I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Well, I'm hooked on Riordan's books, although I prefer the Greek/Roman world to the Egyptian and Norse series. It takes a writer of Riordan's skill to make me interested in following the adventures of Apollo as a human, since he's about the least admirable, most dislikable Olympian in my eyes. Anyway, I enjoyed this, which sets the stage for Apollo's redemption after getting tossed out on his ear, and sets up another new villain for Percy and hopefully, Jason, to join forces with the gods and Save The World - again!

Iâ€™m happy about the release of this book, back to Camp Half Blood, and I admit the trip into Norse mythology was fun for a bit, but Iâ€™ve grown quite fond of our past protagonists and it was nice to have them back. One thing I would recommend, this book could be read on its own, without reading the others that have come before it, but I wouldnâ€™t. There are some brief summaries of Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter, but it talks about the outcome of those events. Also, the book takes place at the start of Riordianâ€™s last book Magnus Chase, and you know that based on what Annabeth is doing, sheâ€™s in Boston.The book has Percy for a bit in it, but then it is primarily focused on Apollo and a new demi-god Meg. Like many of Riordianâ€™s past books, the origins of Meg are a bit of a mystery. Uh, I really have to say, there are some hysterical reference in the book that are not entirely based on the knowledge of children in the normal YA range. Shout-out to a Rocky Horror mention! Anyway, the book is enjoyable to read as all the others and is quick.Apollo is on earth as a mortal, the oracles have stopped prophesizing and there are a lot of tie-inâ€™s to other stories that will emerge in the future, in particular Leo. I was worried that Apollo would annoy me, but his arrogance is amusing, and he has some pretty interesting narratives on his fatherhood, especially being proud of his childrenâ€™s vanity. As a condition of his time on earth he must serve a demi-God, which is an enjoyable paring to read about and the character of Meg is unique and very strong. Thereâ€™s still more to learn about her background though, which I am excited for in the future.I donâ€™t want to give too much away, but the new threat is a bit different from the past and pertains to historical figures, not simply the Gods and Goddesses in the traditional sense. The entire story is told from Apolloâ€™s perspective and itâ€™s kind of nice to have on-going pop-culture references, even as recent as Alabama Shakes.I highly recommend it! However, wait to read this after youâ€™ve read the other Percy Jackson books!

I am a fan of Riordan. I enjoy how he takes ancient mythology and relates it to the modern world in a way that intrigues young and older minds alike and inspires kids to learn more about ancient histories and civilizations. This first book of the new Apollo series was much anticipated by both myself and my son (age 12). That anticipation may have been a disservice, however, as the story did not quite meet the high expectations. While the Percy Jackson and the subsequent books brought the reader into this mythological cross-section with relatable characters, Apollo falls short of establishing this relationship. He is frequently far too depressed and, for lack of a better description, whines too much in self pity. While I realize this is an internal struggle for Apollo, it is not so dissimilar to the feelings of inadequacy Percy often felt, yet because of better development, the reader was drawn into Percy's feelings rather than just being annoyed by them. It is never a good thing for the reader to find your main character annoying. I did finish the book and I am hoping Apollo's inner whine struggle will abate, or at least be relatable n the future installments. My son did not finish the book. And that is saying something, as he is an avid reader and huge fan. He easily reads two books a week and loves all the Percy Jackson, Olympian, Roman, Egyptian and Nordic books by Riordan. He was greatly disappointed and would probably disagree with my giving the book three stars. However, I stand by the three stars, admitting this is not Riordan's best work, but the research is excellent, the plot moves sufficiently, he did create characters I care about and he did provide adequate conflict, even if the resolutions were sometimes over simplified. It is an okay read if you are patient enough to get past Apollo being a little too Apollo. I do hope the next book is better, but this one does not leave me in a rush to pre-order it.

This is one of the best books I have read. It was great that Rick kept Apollos arrogance but still made him realize that he had faults. I'm going to be real here and say that I was in tears on multiple occasions.It was also great that he decided to let people like Leo and Calypso have the spot light instead of Percy and Annabeth. I was laughing so hard and some parts, I almost fell off the chair I was sitting on.This is a book that you are going to want to read and will keep you on the edge of your toes waiting for the next one.

I received this book and couldn't believe it was a legitimate -- thinking it was illegally printed -- because the images are so fuzzy and hard to read. I returned the book and asked Amazon for a copy of the REAL book, and they sent me another of the same printing quality. Again I told Amazon that the printing is poor and they said they'd make sure it was the real copy and sent it without me having to return the prior. I then owned 2 books with terrible graphics, so I took photos and sent to the publisher, "Surely they'll be livid to hear someone is supplying Amazon with illegal copies of their book"! They said they'd look into it to the issue, meanwhile they sent me a PDF of the book, which I opened, to find fuzzy, pixilated images therein. Well, problem solved -- no one's robbing this publisher, but at nearly $30 a copy, no thanks!

Not all stories are quite appropriate for all grades, but could be used with older elementary on up. The authors selected have retold compelling accounts of childhood memories. Especially enjoyed Avi's. I did wish that more authors had been included that my students are familiar with, and many stories seemed set in the same time period--but this will be a powerful teaching tool in my upper elementary classroom!

This book, written by an impressive cadre of authors, offers children and those who love them, avenues for conversations that might not enter the context of growing and learning.

I enjoyed these short stories from various children's authors.

I plan to read many different stories from these volumes to teach memoirs to my students. Each short story is written from the author's perspective and shows many different voices.

Charming well written stories will inspire young readers and writers

this book was required for my son school, so far he likes it. it is kind of thick. hope he finish to read it in the summer.
